The Border Security Force (BSF) is one of the foremost central armed police forces of the country. Tasked with guarding the crucial India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders, the BSF is seen as the first line of defence in case of aggression from the enemy.
Over the past few months, the BSF has been retaliating strongly and effectively against the constant ceasefire violations from Pakistani side. But responding to the enemy is not the only thing our security forces do – a major task that they undertake is assisting in humanitarian operations.
On 17 February, the BSF answered a humanitarian call from Naxal-affected Malkangiri in Odisha.
Responding to a critical medical condition of a newly born baby and his mother, BSF troopers provided immediate aid to the two.
The BSF also ensured that the baby and the mother are safely evacuated to the hospital at Chitrakonda for further treatment.
It should be noted that the area where the evacuation was conducted is cut-off from the rest of the region.
According to local reports, the BSF ferried the woman and the child in a boat across the Gurupriya River from the village in Papermetla to Chitrakonda.
Reports say that both the woman and the child are now fine.
Like other security forces, the BSF, too, has been carrying out humanitarian rescue and evacuation often in the most difficult of circumstances.
