The passengers though, were in great distress, as the incident happened during what could be called a “rush hour”, stated one of the passengers who claimed he was flummoxed when the situation unfolded inside the station.
“For a moment I thought it was actually a bomb. Some passengers even ran to make their way out of the station” claimed an eyewitness.
The police stated that as soon as they received the information around 11:10 am, a bomb squad along with the sniffer dogs reached the place to carry out investigation.
“Soon after a team reached the spot, it was secured and necessary safety measures were taken. The can was lying in a space that generally doesn’t witness passenger movement. A detailed report is yet to arrive after the bomb squad determines whether there were any traces of explosives inside” said the police officer.
Officers from Bhawanipore Police Station also reached the spot to investigate the same. “A red can was lying in front of one of the escalators, unattended, which drew the attention of commuters who suspected it to be an explosive. However, it seemed to be a hoax. The reports to confirm whether it contained any explosives, is yet to be made” described an officer.
