The BJP has demanded CBI probe into the mysterious death of its party worker Tapas Bagdi (30) in Birbhum. On 21 October, he was found hanging from a tree in the jungles at Dwarka village under Labhpur police station limits here.

The Birbhum police and the district Trinamul Congress claimed that it is a case of suicide. The widow and the father of the victim have, however, claimed that he was murdered and then hanged from a tree.

The district BJP led by president Ramkrishna Roy started a sit-in dharna in front of the office of the Suri sub-divisional magistrate, demanding a CBI probe into the death of Bagdi. Senior leaders Locket Chatterjee and Sayantan Basu visited the village and talked with the family members of the deceased, assuring them of justice.

“We want CBI investigations in the mysterious death case of Tapas Bagdi, our party worker in Dwarka village. The state government will not investigate the case and we have decided to move the court to seek justice,” Basu added.

He even sought impartial high-level investigation into the property amassed by the district TMC leaders in Birbhum since having come to power in Bengal in 2011.

TMC district president of Birbhum Anubrata Mondal claimed that the BJP has been trying to make the suicide an issue to remain in politics.
