NHRC issues notice over excreta attack on Odisha tribal woman
The rights body asked the authorities to ensure needful action and submit the action taken report (ATR) to the Commission within four weeks.

Odisha Lokayukta has issued show-cause notices to authorities concerned in Malkangiri district on a report that states that the inmates of a residential school for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe children walked 20 km to meet the district welfare officer to apprise him of irregularities in their hostel.

The students scaled the boundary wall of the hostel and walked 20 kms to apprise the officials that the rice meant for the hostel inmates is often sold out by the teachers and the food served to them in the hostel is of poor quality.

“Having regard to the genuine grievance of the tribal students who appear to be victims of malpractice and condition in the hostel, Lokayukta deemed it proper to take suo moto cognizance of the matter and accordingly has issued notices to Collector,Malkangiri, Project Administrator, Integrated Tribal Development Agency, Malkangiri, District Welfare Officer, Malkangiri and Headmaster Mariwada Ashram School ,Malkangiri shall file their reply within 6 weeks”, the Lokayukta ordered.
