Health Minister Naba Kishore Das today launched a non surgical weight loss procedure at CARE Hospitals, Bhubaneswar. The ESG programme is led by Dr. Mohit Bhandari who has performed more than 11000 Bariatric Surgeries and has operated in more than 70 countries
Dr.Bhandari entered the Limca Book of Records in 2015 by performing 25 bariatric surgeries in an 11-hour period, achieving the feat with the help of a 40 person team.

The Health Minister said “Health care sector has developed tremendously. Previously people use to go out of Odisha to avail this facility. But now they can get the facility of metabolic surgery or the Non-Surgical Weight Loss in Odisha itself”.
Dr. Mohit Bhandari, Consultant in Obesity and a Bariatric Surgeon said “Obesity is a growing problem, making half of the population overweight. Millions are suffering from severe obesity issues, Obesity is a major cause of premature death and leads to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and many other ailments.”
Globally today, an estimated 1.5 billion adults are overweight or obese and this is expected to rise to more than 3 billion people by 2030. India today has over 30 million people with obesity and this is expected to rise to 70 million by 2025.” Dr.Bhandari said the Bariatric Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a newfangled weight-loss procedure. It reduces the size of the stomach using an endoscopic suturing device without the need for surgery.
He said patients can lose 15-25 kgs depending on multiple factors through this procedure.
Mrs Gurrit Kaur Sethy, the Chief Operating Officer of the hospital said Bhubaneswar has become the first city in Odisha to offer non-surgical methods of weight loss. She said now at CARE Group of Hospitals, patients would be offered ESG as a weight loss option if they are eligible.
