Hydro-electricity generator Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) planted 11,000 plants in three hours on Saturday at all its project stations and sub-stations with a total target of 35,000 fruit, herbal, ornamental and air purifying plants.
Union Power Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla started the BBMB’s plantation drive by planting saplings at 400 KV Sub-Station, Panipat, and at Nangal Dam in township area.

An official spokesperson said BBMB started its plantation drive at different project locations and sub-station sites in 2017 to protect the environment for future generations.
During 2017, BBMB planted 15,000 saplings at all its project stations and sub-stations with a survival rate of around 80 to 90 per cent.
This year the total target is of planting 35,000 fruit, herbal, ornamental and air purifying plants. These saplings would be planted during the monsoon period.
To commence the plantation drive this year, Bhalla planted saplings at 400 KV sub-station, Panipat, on 13 July and also at the Botanical Garden, Nangal on Saturday.
The chairman, BBMB, DK Sharma, along with other officers joined the drive by planting a herbal tree at the Botanical Garden, Nangal. Bhalla also released a book on ‘Award Winning Paintings of School Children on Energy Conservation’ and new edition of ‘BBMB’s Brochure’.
