A manager of the State Bank of India, who was earlier posted in the Siliguri branch at Hill Cart Road, has been arrested after a woman accused him of having a relationship with her with false marriage promises. The bank manager was produced in the Siliguri Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court (ACJM) here on Wednesday, and the court ordered him in jail custody for 14 days.
Subhendu Talukdar, a resident of Kolkata, was picked up by the police from Kasba in Kolkata. Mr Talukdar had been transferred back to Kolkata from Siliguri at the end of 2017, it is learnt.
“In 2011, Mr Talukdar was the branch manager at the SBI’s Siliguri branch, and we approached him for a loan as we are poor and we needed cash. The man started visiting our house continuously and even asked for my mobile number from my mother. He also promised me that he would provide me employment,” the woman alleged.
“He called me for an official meeting for the job. Upon reaching the place where he called me, there was no one, and he said no one else will come. He forcibly made physical contact with me, which I could not share as he threatened me and said he has contacts with higher officials. He said he loved me and that his acts should not be considered absurd. He repeatedly molested me,” she added.
“I am a divorcee and I have a daughter. He threatened to use my daughter if I complained,” she claimed.
Meanwhile, advocate Aloke Das said a police complaint had been filed at the Siliguri women’s police station by the woman on 9 March.
“The victim was arrested on 20 March and produced before the Alipore Sadar civil court, South 24 Parganas, where he was ordered in two days’ transit remand, and he was produced before the ACJM here,” he said.
