A retired teacher and resident of Balurghat, Jharna Laha Kulbi, on Friday filed a complaint at the Balurghat police station against a bank employee, accusing him of withdrawing a huge amount of money from her account using her ATM card. A complaint was also lodged with the private bank today, while officials said the bank has started investigations. Mrs Kulbi, 67, and one of her relatives, yesterday went to the bank to withdraw money, while the bank authorities informed them of insufficientfunds in her account.
She immediately rushed to update her passbook, and as per the bank records, a total of Rs 8,87,500 was withdrawal through her ATM from Kolkata from 21/07/17 to 29/12/17. “Mrs Kulbi then filed a complaint against the bank the same day,” sources said. Mrs Kulbi had registered her account with the Balurghat RathTala AXIS bank branch on 01/01/17.

Mrs Kulbi received some money after the death of her husband, and the bank employee convinced her to open an account with the branch, it is learnt.
“I never used the ATM card after opening the account. I don’t know the password of my card. I had earlier refused to accept the ATM card facility when they approached me. I have found that someone has used my ATM and my account now has insufficient money.
I have informed the branch manager of Rathtala branch and an FIR has been filed at the Balurghat police station on the same. I am afraid that our money is not safe even in a bank,” said Mrs Kulbi. A source at the private bank said, “We have received a complaint from one of our account holders. The bank will help the customer, while a departmental investigation has also been started.”
