Nikhamoni Bora becomes Assam’s first certified female sailor

In an acid attack, a wrestler and her friend were injured in Lalkurti area of Meerut on Wednesday morning when they were on way to sports stadium for practice.
Police have arrested main accused Soni while raids are ongoing to nab two other accused, including her Jija (sister’s husband).

According to SP (City) Maan Singh Chauhan, a case has been registered under sections 326A (to disfigure) and 307 (attempt to murder). The other two accused identified by the victims as Vijay and his friend would soon be behind bars, averred Chauhan.

The incident was reported when Shalu (23), a wrestler, and her friend Garima, a boxer, were on their way to Kailash Prakash Sports Stadium for their morning training session.
Accompanied by Soni, her Jija, Vijay and his friend came in a motorcycle and threw acid on Shalu and Garima.
Shalu received 20 percent burn injuries on her back and Garima sustained acid injuries on her elbow. They were immediately rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
Satpal Amtul, circle officer of the cantonment, said that Soni , 27, lives alone after divorce and her father is in jail.
Shalu had gone to meet one of her relatives in jail a few days before where she had a conflict with Soni on the issue of standing in a queue.
Upset over the incident Soni decided to teach her a lesson. Taking help of Vijay he hatched this conspiracy of acid attack on Shalu.
