An IIT-Madras student was attacked allegedly by the members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday for consuming beef during the Sunday protest event on the campus.
Sooraj, studying M.Tech in the prestigious college, was one of the many students who took part in the beef festival as a mark of protest against the ban.
He was seriously injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Around 80 students organised the beef festival on the campus on Sunday with beef curry and bread being served as a mark of protest against the government’s decision.
There were similar protest in Kerala also and chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said that the people of his state didn’t need a lesson on food habits from New Delhi or Nagpur.
Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Harsh Vardhan on May 26 said that the government has notified the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rules, 2017, to ensure that the cattle are not sold for slaughter.
“An undertaking to this effect has to be given to the member secretary of the animal market committee from the seller as well as the buyer,” Vardhan.
