The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that the BJP’s victory in the Chandigarh polls was due to tampering of votes where the presiding officer wrongfully declared the AAP-Congress combine’s eight votes ‘invalid’.
The BJP emerged victorious in the polls by a margin of four votes. The party polled 16 votes against 12 of the Congress- AAP joint candidates, while eight votes were declared invalid.
In the election contested by the AAP and the Congress jointly for the first time as part of the INDIA bloc, BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar emerged winner by getting 16 votes.
The result did not go down well with the Kejriwal-led party. It questioned how its party candidate got only 12 votes when it has as many as 20 councillors in the civic body.
Kejriwal said the victory of the saffron party is the result of dishonesty put into practice in broad daylight, and called it a matter of great concern.
