Employees in many companies across India are gearing up for gifts on Diwali but those of Hari Krishna Exports will probably be the happiest for they have received cars and insurance policies from their employer, diamond merchant Savjibhai Dholakia.

Ahead of Diwali, the diamantaire gave away 600 cars, fixed deposits and insurance policies to 1700 employees of the company – all of whom working as ‘diamond artists and engineers’.

“It gives us immense pleasure to inform that Hari Krishna Group is hosting a Skill India Incentive Ceremony 2018 on 25th October 2018,” Dholakia said in a Facebook post ahead of the event.

“As a part of our loyalty bonus program to our employees, we will be giving incentive to approximately 1700 diamond artists and diamond engineers,” he wrote.

The incentives were handed over to employees at Dholakia’s Surat-based firm on 25 October.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the employees of the firm through video-conferencing during the event.

According to a company statement, the employees also received life insurance ranging from Rs 5 million to Rs 10 million.

PTI reports that each car gifted this year costs between Rs 4-4.5 lakh of which an employee had to pay around Rs 40,000 as down payment for the car. The company will reportedly bear the rest of the cost. The cumulative cost of the 600 cars comes to around Rs 2.7 million.

According to Dholakia, the beneficiaries are selected through a software-based system after they qualify for the company’s loyalty bonus programme. It is, however, not clear whether there were any specific conditions for the beneficiaries to be eligible for the cars.

In 2016, Hari Krishna Exports gave employees 400 flats and 1,260 cars while 200 houses and 491 cars were handed over in 2015. There was no such headline-grabbing event in 2017.

Incidentally, the firm in September this year had given high-end SUVs to three senior employees, who had completed 25 years with the firm, for being “pillars of the company”.
