India is once again staring at the prospect of a reduced wheat harvest as above-average temperatures threaten the winter-sown crop.

A speeding truck on Wednesday crushed eight persons to death at a roadside in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district, police said.
As the driver tried to gain control of the vehicle, he crashed into a tea stall nearby before overturning.

The police suspect that the number of casualties could rise as many people were feared trapped under the truck.

Following the incident, an angry mob went on the rampage and pelted stones at the police, an officer said.
A large police force has been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control.
