Cloudburst wreaked havoc in different parts of Uttarakhand of Friday. Four persons were killed, many other suffered injuries and damage to property were registered from Tehri and Chamoli districts. In a tragic incident, two members of a family were killed and one got injured when their house collapsed due to cloudburst triggering flash-flood at village ThelaTharti in district Tehri.

Tharti’s village head Deepa Devi said: “The incident took place at wee hours at 1.40 a.m. Two persons were killed and one was injured. The cloudburst has caused threat to four other houses in our village.”

In a similar incident in district Chamoli, two persons lost their lives in cloudburst related incident. Pushpa Devi (29) and her seven-year-old daughter Jyoti lost their lives in the cloudburst at village Faldia, near Deval.

The flash-flood, triggered by cloudburst, caused damage to about one dozen houses, many pedestrian bridges got washed away and loss of livestock was also recorded in the affected areas.

At Thela-Tarthi, the incident took place early morning when the family was in deep sleep. Their house came in fold of the flash-flood. Makani Devi (30) and her son Suraj (7) were killed and Sapna (12) suffered injuries.

Young Sapana was rushed to the nearest health care centre at Pilkhi. Search and rescue team rushed to the affected Tharti and managed to find the bodies after conducting an extensive operation. Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has asked to take precaution in view of the incidents of excessive rainfall in the hill state.

He has instructed all the District Magistrates to identify sensitive areas and to keep the Disaster Management System active in all the districts. He has instructed that arrangements should be made to provide immediate relief to any kind of loss of life and property during the disaster.
