In a major catch, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) here on Thursday seized about 36-kg ‘charas’ that was being transported to Nashik in Maharashtra.
The zonal director of NCB, Manoj Kumar, said that the accused duo belonging to Anantnag district in South Kashmir was carrying the contraband in a Honda car. The vehicle has also been impounded. The ‘charas’ valued at a few crores of rupees was seized near Kaluchak on the Jammu-Delhi highway.
Acting on the basis of secret information, the NCB intercepted the car that was coming from Srinagar and seized 36 packets of the high value contraband from the specially fabricated cavities in the rear seat and boot of the car, Manoj Kumar said.
The accused were being interrogated by the NCB to know about their contacts in Nashik and other places.
It is worth mentioning that Kashmir has overtaken Himachal Pradesh in smuggling narcotics to Maharashtra that has emerged as the highest consumer of ‘charas’.
