Dharmasala police arrested a 30-year-old youth for raping a married woman in Putunia village in Jajpur district on Tuesday night. The accused , identified as Siba Prasad Rout, belongs to Banamalipur which falls under Bari police limits in the district.

Police arrested the youth on the late Wednesday night on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim. Uma Kanta Nayak, inspector- in-charge of Dharmasala police station, said Siba Prasad Rout, used to stay at his uncle’s house and was a neighbour of the victim. “Rout entered the house of the 30-year-old victim, a mother of two teenagers, in the pretext of watching television programmee on Tuesday night.

The victim used to live with her two children as her husband works in a private company in Bangalore. Finding no one in the house, the youth forced himself upon and raped the married woman,” said Uma Kanta Nayak, inspector-in-charge of Dharmasala police station. The incident took place when the duo teenagers of the woman was sleeping in a room, he said.

The accused even threatened her of dire consequences if she tells anyone about the incident, police said. The victim then informed to her husband about the incident over phone. Being directed by her husband, the woman later lodged an FIR at the Dharmasala police station.

Basing on the report, police registered a rape case against the accused and started investigation into it. “We conducted raids of the accused’s hideout at a neighbouring village and arrested him last night. We conducted medical test on both the woman and the accused on Thursday,” said the police. The accused has been arrested under section 376 and 506 of IPC, police said. The accused was forwarded to the local court on Thursday and later remanded to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
