At least three terrorists of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K) were killed and one Assam Rifles (AR) officer lost his life in an encounter in Mon district in Nagaland on Wednesday, according to media reports.

Three AR jawans were also injured in the encounter that took place at Lappa in Tizit circle on Tuesday night.

Assam Rifles personnel raided Lappa at around 11 pm following inputs that NSCN(K) cadres were moving through that area, a defence spokesperson was quoted as saying by a news agency.

The encounter continued for several hours. Later, bodies of the three militants were found.

The encounter comes days after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had termed religious radicalisation as a serious security threat and said if not checked in time, it could lead to terrorism.

The home minister had made the remark while reviewing the security situation in the Northeast with chief secretaries and DGPs of the states of the region.
