The 11-year-girl who tested HIV positive allegedly after blood transfusion at the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) here, died of pneumonia on Wednesday
She was admitted in Vantanam Medical college hospital, Alappuzha after having severe fever and was shifted to ICU after doctors confirmed pneumonia. But her condition became worse and she died at the hospital on Wednesday noon.
The girl suffering from blood cancer reached the RCC for treatment in March 2017 as referred from Alappuzha Medical College. She had undergone radiation therapy as part of the treatment, following which her blood count decreased.
She then underwent blood transfusion from RCC, after which she was doubted to have contracted HIV. The tests conducted at the regional laboratory in Chennai found that the girl is not infected with HIV virus.
The blood sample was later sent to a laboratory in New Delhi for further clarification.Unfortunately, the blood test reports from New Delhi’s laboratory has not yet arrived.
