Rupee depreciates to new lifetime low; stocks decline for sixth day

Continuing with the consistent depreciation, the rupee slipped further from the recent low and hit another lifetime low at 81.90 against the US dollar on Wednesday morning. In equity markets, Indian stocks extended their losses for the sixth straight session, dragged largely by broad-based selling in the global equities. At 10.08 am, Sensex and Nifty each traded 0.3-0.4 per cent lower. 

Sensex extends losses to 5th day, closes 38 points lower

Extending the losses to the fifth consecutive session, the Indian stock market's benchmark Sensex closed 38 points down in a volatile session on Tuesday. The 30 stock S&P BSE Sensex closed 37.70 points or 0.07 per cent down at 57,107.52 points against its previous day's close at 57,145.22 points.

Oil prices rose more than 1 per cent on Tuesday after declining to a nine-month low a day earlier, amid the hint that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec+) -- the producer alliance -- may go for output reductions to prevent further collapse in prices.
