In a bid to promote cashless transactions, the Modi government has announced marginal discounts on petrol and diesel purchased through BHIM App.

A discount of 49 paise per litre on petrol and 41 paise per litre on diesel will be available for users of government’s flagship Bhim App to make payment.

Last week, the Centre government had cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs. 2 per litre.

On 30 December 2016, Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi had launched the BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) App for mobile phones in New Delhi.

The App is developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), based on the Unified Payment Interface (UPI).

The cashless application has been named after Dr Bhimrao R Ambedkar and is intended to facilitate e-payments directly through banks as part of the 2016 Indian banknote demonetisation and drive towards cashless transactions.

The application can be used on all mobile devices. BHIM allow users to send or receive money to or from UPI payment addresses, or to non-UPI based accounts (by scanning a QR code with account number and IFSC code or Mobile Money Identifier Code).
