The admission process for the Delhi University (DU)’s first cut-off list of students in various undergraduate (UG) courses in its colleges came to an end today, which already witnessed over 17000 enrolments in all categories in just four days. The DU had released on 27 June night the first cut-off list for admission to its various UG courses in its 63 colleges for the academic session 2019-20.

According to DU officials, over 17000 students have enrolled themselves so far out of total 62,000 seats available in various colleges of the DU for UG admissions. On the last day of the first cut-off admission today, campuses witnessed a deluge of applicant and aspirant students, and even their parents, rushing into various colleges to try and get themselves enrolled.

With the DU’s major colleges like Miranda House and Hindu College already witnessing a near-total first cut-off admission in their various courses, many students seemed to be disappointed that they may not even get the chance for any subsequent cut-offs.

Vivek Katyal, who got enrolled in BA Political Science and Philosophy at Kirori Mal College said, “It is very disappointing that top colleges have almost filled the required capacity of students. I was keen to get enrolled in BA Political Science (Hons), but with cutoffs like 99 percent I do not think I will be able to make it. Also, the seats are rapidly getting filled. I do not want to waste my time and limit my options by waiting for the second cut-off. So, I have opted for BA Political Science and Philosophy.”

Commenting on the filling up of seats in the first cutoff list, Manoj Khanna, principal of Ramjas College said, “We have filled about 745 seats in all the courses. Political Science does not have any seats left as per our calculation, so as of now I do not think that there will be second cut-off for the course in any category. English Honours is also filling up fast, we have had a good amount of enrolments even on the last day.”

Ramjas college had a cut-off of 97 per cent for BA Political Science (Hons). Another aspirant student Prantak Singh said, “I scored 94 per cent and was expecting to get into any top college for English Honours by the second cut-off list. But with seats getting filled up, I do not want to risk my options and therefore I have enrolled for BA Programme.”

With Miranda House filling up 1155 seats in various courses today, it would close many courses for the second cut-off list in the unreserved category.

Bijayalaxmi Nanda, principal of Miranda House, said, “As per our counting, we have had over 1100 enrolments today for various courses. Courses like History, Political Science, English and also may be Physics, apparently won’t have second cut-off for the unreserved category. Also some combination BA Programmes might not witness the second cut-off for some categories.”

Despite the highest cutoff percentage of 99 for BA Political Science (Hons), Hindu College is also expected not to release a second cutoff for the course. The DU would declare its second cut-off list for admission to various UG courses on 4 July.
