Courts as scavengers
The bureaucracy must perform its duties diligently to save courts from the role thrust on them by the teachers’ recruitment scam, says Bimal Kumar Chatterjee
The class 10th board examinations began in Bihar amid tight security at examination halls on Wednesday, 21 February. Conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), the exams will be held in two shifts.
Students were seen arriving at the examination centres in slippers following a notification by the Board barring students from entering examination halls in socks and shoes. The move is aimed at curbing cheating during the examinations.
Officials claim that the measure is necessary because it is difficult to check each and every student thoroughly during the examinations. They also said that the advisory is not new and has been issued in the past.

The decision was taken days after 985 students were caught cheating in the intermediate examination conducted by the BSEB.
It is also the first time that students will be giving answers to the objective type questions on OMR sheets. According to reports, answers to non-objective type questions will be written on normal sheets.
Around 17 lakh students are appearing for the examinations across 1426 centres in Bihar to be held till 28 February.
