New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has taken elaborate measures to construct underpasses for smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians at the busiest rotary in New Town, near Biswa Bangla gate.

The vehicular underpass consists of a four-lane divided carriageway where the width of each carriageway is 5.80m. The total length of the vehicular underpass is 326 meter. The up ramp is 140-metre long. The clear height in the box portion is 3.50 metre.

To ensure that the underpasses remain free from waterlogging, four submersibles pumps have been installed to clear the accumulated water during rainy season.
Four pedestrian underpasses have also been constructed to ease the pedestrian movement. The pedestrians can move any direction without entering into the main carriageway of the busy Biswa Bangla Sarani. Out of the four pedestrian underpasses, two have been constructed below the vehicular underpasses. Each pedestrian underpass provides a 6-metre wide subway with up and down escalators in each and every vomitory.
A senior police officer of Bidhannagar Commissionerate said once functional, the flow of traffic along Biswa Bangla Sarani will not only be smooth, vehicles will not have to wait at the signals. The airportbound traffic will be able to reach their destination effortlessly.
The pedestrians will not run the risk of getting hit by speeding vehicles. As escalators have been installed even the elderly people could cross the road without any pain.
