Mystery shrouds the death of an armed constable of Kolkata Police (KP) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in the 19th floor of the Nizam Palace on Thursday.
Panic prevailed in the central investigating agency’s office soon after the news of the death spread in the building where several important offices are also housed. There are also residential quarters of MPs in other buildings inside its premises along the AJC Bose Road.
According to police, the deceased Meer Azhar Ali, a resident of Murshidabad district, was deputed at the CBI office as security personnel.
His colleagues and other CBI staff were anxious after Meer entered the toilet but did not come out. After getting no response they broke the door of the toilet and found his head down inside the commode. Police rushed to the spot and took to a nearby hospital in an unconscious condition where he was declared dead.
His body was sent for post-mortem, according to police. Preliminary investigation showed he might have died of heart attack.
