The ongoing corruption issue in the state has shaken the political image of TMC leaders and workers, the ruling party, well aware of the swing of mood of the public is now seeking to put up candidates for panchayat election with clean images and better public acceptance.

This is particularly pertinent when the BJP and the other Opposition parties are all set to corner the Trinamul Congress on the curruption issue. In Singur panchayat samity, the TMC has decided to resort to the voting system among party workers to seek out the most suitable candidate from within the party fold who can present a taintless face of the TMC to the voters. Today in Singur-Haripal block level voting was conducted in 280 booths in 16 gram panchayats under Singur panchayat samity. A total of 240 candidates will be selected for gram sabha, 47 candidates for panchayat samity and three candidates for Zila Parishad.

However some discontented party workers complained of wrong procedure in selecting the best candidates. They said only 50 party workers from each booth were given the ballot paper to cast vote in favour of three candidates among themselves of their choice., In many of the cases it has been found the most experienced, dedicated and devoted party workers were not issued the ballot paper.
