The ruling Trinamul Congress is gearing up to move the Election Commission on alleged bogus voters. This, after chief minister Mamata Banerjee expressed apprehensions on Wednesday that bogus voters may vitiate the voters’ list ahead of 2026 Assembly polls.
Taking a cue from Miss Banerjee’s warning, Sovandeb Chatterjee, the state parliamentary affairs minister today said that the party was gearing up to move the office of the state chief electoral officer (CEO) to verify the names appeared on the revised list of voters.

Mr Chatterjee said, “I shall convene a meeting within a day or two and also write to the CEO on alleged bogus voters crowding the voters’ list. I personally will visit the CEO office and verify the names. No names, without proper verifications, would be allowed to be registered. No online registration of voters’ names will be tolerated.”
Upping his ante, he further said that should such an endeavour on alleged online registration be allowed to proceed, the party would be forced to hit the streets flagging protest on the alleged nefarious design.
He made it clear that a hearing should be preceded by proper verification of names before being put to the list.
As sources in the Trinamul Congress claimed that an alert message from the party high command to all the leaders in each district had already been sounded to be proactive on the issue and bring it to the notice of the district administration, if they come across any such anomaly.
