Trinamul Congress and BJP MLAs got involved in word duel over the National Anthem and the state anthem at the beginning of the Budget session in the Assembly this afternoon.
At the beginning of the Budget session, MLAs of the ruling party rose from their seats as the state anthem Banglar Mati Banglar Jal was being played.

Immediately, the BJP MLAs rose from their seats and started singing the National Anthem.

The state government has decided that in all its functions, the state anthem will be played in the beginning and at the end the National Anthem will be sung.
Calling the incident as “most unfortunate” Miss Banerjee said it is the custom to sing the National Anthem at the end of the programme and not at the beginning. The slogan shouting and counter sloganeering continued for some time and then proceedings of the House started.
