“It is expected the proposal forwarded by me to start waterways services from Chandannagar, Serampore, and Uttarpara directly to Kolkata during the morning and evening office rush is under consideration with the state transport minister Mr Snehasis Chakraborty. The waterways will also boost tourism industry,” Mr Banerjee said.
The MP added that the state chief minister Mamata Banerjee recently from Arambagh inaugurated the water treatment plant at Uttarpara. This water treatment plant is the biggest in the state which has come up at the cost of 1600 crores which will benefit more than 18 lakhs people of the entire Serampore sub division and also panchayat areas. During the Left Front government loadshedding or power cuts were very frequent but now there is uninterrupted power supply.
Mr Banerjee, speaking on medical services, said Serampore Walsh super-speciality hospital has the most advanced ICCU but the problem is the non-availability on regular basis of heart specialists. “All the necessary infrastructure is available to conduct major heart surgery including heart bypass surgery but the heart specialists are not fond of working in urban and rural upgraded hospitals.
They always tend to shift to Kolkata hospitals or opt for other states. We need dedicated heart specialists round the clock for urban and rural hospitals so that heart patients need not rush to any far off hospitals. I urge doctors to dedicate their valuable services in urban and rural hospitals of the district,” he said.
