The objective of the fair is to enhance the growth of poultry industry in Bengal and its neighbouring states like Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Manipur. The fair was inaugurated by Pradsip Mazumdar, state panchayat minister and Swapan Debnath, state animal resources development minister.

It may be mentioned that chief minister Mamata Banerjee has laid emphasis on the enhancement of poultry products and distributes chicken and ducklings from the distribution programmes.

In table egg production, the consumption was 18 per cent in 2011 and now Bengal ranks fourth in egg production in the country and the annual growth rate is 18.07 per cent against the national average of 3.18 per cent.

Mr Debnath said those who run poultry are given regular training by the animal development department to combat various diseases which often hit production. Interactive sessions and technical sessions have been held at the fair to train up the owners and workers of poultries.
