The opposition party demanded chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s statement in the House, who they claimed was conspicuous by her absence despite the discussions on the home department’s budget.
The BJP leaders’ move prompted the Speaker to suspend the six of its legislators, including the Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari for his unruly behaviour on the floor of the House.

The BJP legislature party, led by Adhikari staged a sit-in on the floor of the House wearing T-shirts.
A miffed Speaker, Biman Banerjee objected to the way the Opposition flagged protest in the floor of the House wearing T-shirts and asked to change the garments saying this cannot be done in the House.
The Speaker said to the Leader of Opposition, “You know that it was a slogan and should not be carried in the Well of the House.”
But an unrelenting Opposition continued with its protests, ignoring the Speaker’s reservation. The BJP legislators then staged a walkout from the House and proceeded towards Sandeshkhali along with about 67 MLAs in buses but failed to proceed beyond Science City, where they were prevented and returned nearly after four hours.
