As Kolkata Metro inches closer to the final commissioning of New Garia and Ruby Metro corridor, six new bidirectional AFC-PC gates have been installed at the Kavi Subhash Metro station, which would be operational soon.

The new gates would enable a smooth interchange at Kavi Subhash Metro station for commuters without purchasing separate tickets at the station.

The stretch between New Garia and Ruby has received safety clearance from the commissioner of railway safety and the Kolkata Metro authorities are now awaiting a nod from the Railway Board for inauguration of the line.

After the opening of commercial services on the New Garia-Ruby stretch, Kavi Subhash Metro station is to serve as an important junction. It is to be used as a common terminal for both the existing New Garia-Dakshineswar Metro and the upcoming New Garia- Ruby Metro.

The bi-directional AFC-PC gates have been installed at the station in view of the fact that Kavi Subhash will be the meeting point of the existing Blue Line and soon-to-beinaugurated Orange Line. The gates, according to city metro officials, are able to handle 45 passengers per minute.

Commuters after getting down at the Down platform of Kavi Subhash Metro station would be able to punch their tokens or smart cards at these gates and avail the services of Eastern Railway from New Garia station.

With the installation of the new gates, the existing six AFC-PC gates adjacent to the Down Metro platform, which serve the passengers of Blue Line now, would be dismantled. This would help the commuters to switch between Blue Line and Orange Line without punching their tokens or smart card .
