Within hours of the list of contestants for the Lok Sabha election being brought to public, Sayantika Banerjee, the actor-turned-politician resigned from the entire party posts last evening.
Speculations were high that she might switch over to another party. She however didn’t divulge such development as yet.
Sayantika joined the Trinamul Congress ahead of the 2021 Assembly election and was fielded by the party as a candidate for the Bankura seat where she was defeated by the BJP candidate Niladri Sekhar Dana. She seemed an aspirant for the Bankura Lok Sabha seat in 2024, which her party denied, her close associates in the party claimed. She, however, mentioned ‘personal reason’ in her resignation forwarded to her party hierarchy.
