Around 364 primary teachers received their appointments in south 24-Parganas today.
This has put an end to the stalemate that had developed over recruitment of primary teachers, some 15 years ago. The agitating candidates called off their fast, post the move.
The initiative was taken by Kunal Ghosh, state general secretary of Trinamul Congress. Mr Ghosh along with chairman of the district primary board, Mr Ajit Nayek worked on how the teachers could get their jobs. The stalemate happened during the Left Front regime.
In 2009, during the examination to recruit primary teachers, there were 1,834 posts in South 24-Parganas. A panel of 1,506 candidates had been published. Of these successful candidates, 576 candidates did not join. From the list of 328 candidates, a panel of 314 candidates were prepared and another 50 candidates from the waiting list were inducted.
The appointment letters were handed over to them.
After the stalemate was resolved, Mr Ghosh wrote on social media: “The stalemate has been resolved. The agitating candidates have called off the fast. If the candidates have anything more to say they can get in touch with Mr Nayek. He will try to resolve the impasse after taking expert legal opinion.”
