If everything goes according to plan, citizens of South Kolkata will be able to enjoy Metro services in this part of the city soon as the 6.4km stretch is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the city on 30 December.
Ahead of the anticipated inaugural ceremony next week, the general manager of Kolkata Metro Railway, Arun Arora visited the stretch today to take stock of the preparations. The authorities also carried out test and trial runs in the 6.4 km stretch using an AC rake today.
According to sources, the PM is likely to inaugurate a host of projects during his expected visit to the city for a meeting of the National Ganga Council that day. The first Vande Bharat Express train from Howrah to New Jalpaiguri is also expected to be flagged off on that day.

The inauguration of the truncated stretch of the much-awaited Metro line is also likely by the Prime Minister virtually on the same day. According to sources, even though a confirmation on the timing is yet to be received, the inauguration is expected to take place in the second half of the day on 30 December from Howrah Station.
Meanwhile, the city Metro has decided to run 234 services in the north-south corridor on 26 December which has been declared as a holiday by the state government. Instead of 288 services that are generally operated on Mondays, the Kolkata Metro Railway will run services from 6.50 am to 10.35 pm in the Blue Line on that day.
