The electricity bill will shoot up if consumers want to pay the bill every month instead of the existing system of every three months. The state power minister Mr Sovandeb Chatterjee today said in the Assembly that there would be a hike in establishment costs if a system of monthly electricity bills for consumers outside the purview of the CESC’s distribution network in the state is introduced, and this would affect them also.

Consumers in the CESC’s distribution areas including Kolkata and some parts of adjoining districts like Howrah, Hooghly, South and North 24-Parganas districts pay bills every month. “With the increased establishment costs electricity charges for monthly bills will also be hiked and considering this aspect the existing system of paying bills for every three months should be continued,” the power minister said.
