District Enforcement Branch (DEB) of Birbhum district police has seized huge quantities of explosives from an abandoned house in Hastikadi Forest area under Rampurhat police station.

Acting on a specific tip-off, the sleuths of DEB today raided an abandoned house in a forest and seized 20,000 detonators and 15,000 gelatin sticks.

These explosives were kept inside cartoons – six boxes of detonators and 22 rolls of gelatin sticks.

A huge police force has been deployed in the forests during the massive raids conducted by the DEB.

Seizure of such huge quantities of explosives in Birbhum district today has created stir in the district.

Rampurhat police have started a case under the Explosives Act against unknown persons and investigations have begun.

It is still not clear why such huge quantities of powerful explosives have been stored in an abandoned house in the forests of Rampurhat.

Maoists ultras use these kinds of lethal explosives for subversive activities.

These explosives are mainly used in India for opencast and underground mining activities. In illegal mines also such explosives are used.

Already, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing similar explosives haul cases in Birbhum district.
