A written complaint has been submitted to the deputy commissioner (east) of Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC) by the family of the two accidental death victims against six top officials, including the executive director (works) and chief general manager, town services of Durgapur Steel Plant.

Five contract workers and an employee of Durgapur Steel Plant had suffered critical burn injuries after hot molten metal spilled upon them during a maintenance job at Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) on 29 February.

The director in charge of Durgapur Steel Plant, Brijendra Pratap Singh immediately rushed to the hospital and met with the victims. The conditions of them deteriorated and shifted to a super multi-speciality hospital in Bidhan Nagar, where two of them succumbed to their burn injuries.

The INTTUC has already threatened agitations over this issue. The other trade unions including the CITU has also called for a bigger agitation in the coming days if the management does not take proper safety measures.

The five top officials of DSP are – Diptendu Ghosh, ED (Works), Bikash Manmati CGM (TS), Anjani Kumar Saron, CGM (P&A), B P Rao, CGM (SMS), Soumen Chatterjee, DSO and a safety officer.
