Manoranjan Biswas, a resident of Uttarpara in Hooghly, committed suicide by hanging from the fire extinguishing pipe fixed on a wall of the bathroom housed in the fourth floor of Green Building at Medical College Hospital (MCH) on Friday night.

Dr Anjan Adhikari, medical super-cum-vice-principal (MSVP) of the hospital, said that a nurse found the patient lying on his bed in the fourth floor on Friday when she was making rounds in the ward.

He might have committed suicide between 5 to 6 am.
MCH sources said that the patient was scheduled to undergo an orthopaedic surgery soon.
Relatives of patients, undergoing treatment in the building, raised questions on security and safety arrangements.
