The Hooghly MP, Locket Chatterjee has alleged irregularities in the supply of mid-day meals in schools in hte state. Mr Chatterjee today visited a school at Jirat to get apprised of the functioning of pure drinking water system which was installed at her initiative. During her visit she received complaints about supply of low and poor quality mid-day meals to the students. The MP in response to the complaints said: “It is a great challenge for a BJP MP to serve the people since corruption is the way of the Trinamul Congress government.
Previously the available MP fund for the launch of ambulance was unnecessary held up and delayed. any initiative taken up by me to serve the people in a better way gets obstructed by unknown people.” The Hooghly MP added that the Central government provides 60 per cent funding for the mid-day meals. “Thousands of crores of rupees are released for midday meals but the central funds for mid day meal are being misused.
It has come to my knowledge that students were provided starch mixed with rice in mid day meal. Very poor quality of rice and vegetables are provided to the students. On some occasions the students have found dead lizards cockroaches and some small reptiles on the plate when mid day meal was served. The students are deprived of daily need of protein. Soon after the information of the central team coming for inspection about irregularities about mid day meal, they recently have started providing egg and chicken,” the MP said.
The Chinsurah MLA Mr Ashit Majumder, reacting to Ms Chatterjee’s comments, said the Hooghly MP is frightened by the Didir Suraksha Kawaz initiative. Hence she is trying to raise fake issues and trying to creat unrest among the people.
