North Malda MP Khagen Murmu today got a shocker as he opened a parcel an online company sent him for an order for a mobile phone set he had placed. As he opened the packet he received, Mr Murmu said he found two stones in it instead of the phone set. The MP has filed a complaint with the police against the retailer and the courier agency, which delivered the parcel at his residence on Bandh Road under the English Bazaar police station.

The police said they have started investigations into the matter. “Mr Murmu had ordered an android phone a few days ago, and a parcel was delivered at his home this morning by a courier service provider. However, as he opened the same, he found two stones inside. He had paid around Rs 11,500 for the phone,” sources said.

“He has filed a complaint at the Malda police station as the courier agency has its office at the Naldubi area there. The police have started an enquiry and already visited the office,” they added. According to Nilanjan Das, the MP’s secretary, the MP paid the cash as he received the order. “But we had never imagined that he could be defrauded like this,” he said. “The incident is very frustrating. I had heard of such incidents of people being cheated by retail companies or delivery companies, but I experienced it myself today. People will lose their faith on online retailers and courier agencies if this thing continues. I will take legal action against the fraud,” Mr Murmu, a NJP leader, said.
