Mayor Firhad Hakim today inaugurated the renovated Chetla Boys’ School, where along with Bengali, English medium has also been introduced.
Mr Hakim said along with one’s mother tongue it is absolutely necessary to study English which is an international language. Recollecting the past, he said, “There was no English medium when I took admission in school, or else my father could have got me admitted to this school,” he said adding, “Students from middle class families will get quality education where the medium of instruction will be English. The English medium schools in the city have been run by various business groups and it is not possible for the parents of middle class families to send their children to such schools.”

The renovated Chetla Boys’ School has e-classrooms and e-black boards among other facilities.
Mr Hakim also inaugurated a community hall at Harimohan Ghosh College in Kidderpore. He said some people had been staying forcibly at the college. Mr Ranjit Seal took up the matter with them and they had been rehabilitated.
