Dhaniakhali handlooms on the decline
Among the traditional handlooms in Bengal, Begumpur handloom, Santipur handloom, and Dhaniakhali handloom sarees have earned worldwide recognition.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will begin her three-day Jangalmahal district tour from 15 February. Recently, she concluded her Malda, Birbhum and East Burdwan visits.
On 15 February, Miss Mamata Banerjee will arrive at Purulia by helicopter from Jamshedpur via Ranchi. She will spend the night at Purulia Circuit House.

Next day she will hold an administrative meeting at noon in West Midnapore College Ground. On 16 February at 2pm she is supposed to address a meeting at Shimulia Ground in Purulia.

During her three-day tour, the CM will reach Bankura by chopper on 17 February. At noon she will attend the administrative meeting.
The Trinamul Congress suffered heavy defeats in Purulia and Bankura in the three-tier panchayat polls in 2018, Lok Sabha polls in 2019 and Assembly polls in 2021, being pipped by the Bharatiya Janata Party. This visit of CM will be crucial as political observers are keen to see what sops she offers and what message she gives to the people of the three districts in Jangalmahal in South Bengal, just ahead of the panchayat polls. The visit of the CM in these three Jangalmahal districts will also give boost to the Trinamul workers before the upcoming polls.
