Tea Land Policy sparks debate, CM clarifies
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, speaking to the media in Kolkata yesterday, clarified that only 15 per cent of tea plantation land will be used for tea tourism and local employment.

Father John Felix Raj, S.J, vice-chancellor of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) was honoured with the JHEASA Magis 2024 award on Saturday at St. Xavier’s College at the National Jesuit Higher Education conference. Fr. Raj received this award in appreciation of his commitment, dedication and hard work in advancing the mission of higher education in South Asia through his pioneering and path breaking initiatives making a difference in society.
Fr. Stanislaus D’Souza, president of the Jesuit Conference of South Asia presented the Magis medal to Fr. Felix Raj while Fr. Joseph Christie from Rome handed over the plaque. Fr. Joe Arun presented the citation and Fr. Dominic Savio honoured him with a special shawl. “An award is a public recognition, appreciation of the past achievements one has made and it is also an invitation to the future task ahead. Yes, I am humbled and I have a long way to go,”said Fr. Felix Raj after receiving the Magis award.
