One does not need a tony location, an all-out advertisement campaign and a huge collection of books to set up a library. After all, if there is a will, there is a way. Two students of Jadavpur University, Krittika Chakraborty and Ritwija Dutta have set up a women’s library at Sheoraphuli crowd-sourcing books and funds from different cities and countries.
The library which started functioning from last week comes up in the backdrop of stirs against sexual misconduct seeks to mobilise opinions of women and men against established norms. The subject of the books ranges from women’s struggle over generations against patriarchy, the origin of patriarchy, female sexuality to name a few. It would remain open every Sunday from 12.00 noon to 5.00 p.m.

An hour before it closes, the library will host discussions on feminism and films on women. Awareness of sexuality, the significance of feminism, menstrual hygiene, societal taboo and female anatomy will be the subject of the films.
