Police started investigations in an incident in which a Kolkata-bound flight from Bengaluru faced a significant safety issue as laser lights were directed towards the cockpit during landing.

The pilot and co-pilot reported being momentarily blinded by the green laser light, leading to a critical situation. The alleged laser light interference occurred during the descent at Kolkata Airport, originating from the Narayanganj area. The laser light filled the cockpit, causing confusion and concern among the pilot and co-pilot. Aviation authorities at Kolkata Airport have initiated an investigation into the incident, with the pilot alerting the security operations control centre immediately after landing on Saturday at 10.53pm. A police case has been filed regarding this matter and consequent investigation was started.

The security incident has prompted authorities to file a complaint at the international airport police station. Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport authorities expressed deep concern over the safety breach and initiated an inquiry into the matter. A similar incident involving an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Kolkata was reported on 25 February. Additionally, an IndiGo flight from Agartala to Kolkata faced a laser light issue during landing on 28 February. Despite previous complaints by private airlines, the incident on Saturday serves as a clear demonstration that preventing laser light interference remains a challenging task.
