The land and land reforms department, with its associated departments, is going ahead with different development and reform works for the deprived, the less-privileged and the needy. Besides the ongoing developmental work in the urban areas, the land and land reforms department is reaching out to the people in the panchayat areas and even in the remote areas in villages.
The refugee and relief rehabilitation department chairman, Ranjit Sarkar speaking to the Statesman explained about the different development work completed and new work taken up in Hooghly district. Mr Sarkar said, “As per the directive of chief minister Mamata Banerjee to reach out to helpless people to help and support their basic needs for their survival, more than 14,000 people have been handed over pattas.
They have been provided the legal rights of their possession. The refugees have been handed over land area for their shelter without any bindings of terms and conditions. In consultation with the district magistrate, the progress and development benefits have been reached to the people in need at Arambagh sub-division, Jalapara, Chinsurah, Chanditala and in remote panchayat areas.” Special attention is paid towards development of pucca roads in the panchayat areas as well as drinking water to every village.
More than hundred governmentauthorized colonies have been developed for the welfare of deprived and underprivileged people. The government migrant workers welfare board has been formed and Ranjit Sarkar is the founder member of it. The names of migrant workers are enlisted in the state government portal.
The kin of the migrant workers are paid Rs 2 lakh in case of any death, Rs 25,000 to bring back the body home and Rs 3,000for carrying on the last rites. A Refugee Bhavan is coming up in Kolkata to provide shelter to the homeless. In coming days, more progress, development work and social welfare work will be initiated in the state as well as different districts, said Mr Sarkar.
