The Roads Department of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation completed the resurfacing of around 70 kilometres of roads in the year 2023. In the last annual budget, the KMC had allocated funds amounting to Rs 340 crores to the department and the civic body undertook a massive drive of road repairs. More than 300 stretches of roads were repaired by the civic body before Durga Puja.
Some of the roads were resurfacing was done include Anil Moitra Road from Gariahat Road to Ballygunge Place, Confield Road from Anil Moitra Road to Rashbehari Avenue, Dumanyun Avenue from near G.R. Road Petrol Pump to Deputy Commissioner of Police office, E.M Bypass from Bengal Chemical from Junction of Chaulpatty Road, CIT Road from HUDCO Crossing to Phoolbagan Crossing and many more.
In the latest annual Budget for 2024-2025, which was tabled in the KMC House yesterday, the department has once again received a major boost. The Roads Department is one of the areas of thrust in the annual Budget of the forthcoming financial year with a proposed allocation of Rs 318.22 crores.
In the next financial year, the civic body is planning to undertake a similar drive of resurfacing around 25 undulated stretches of roads. Some of the stretches to be covered under the initiative are Cossipore Road, Canal West Road, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road, Shibrampur Main Road, Dr Lal Mohan Bhattacharya Road, Judges Court Road, E M Bypass from Ruby to to Kalikapur in the Eastern flank and Baghajatin Level xing to Ajoy Nagar Crossing in the Western flank, Prince Anwar Shah Road from Jadavpur police station to DPS Road and so on.
