Also, the DM, East Burdwan has been instructed by the HC Justice Amrita Sinha on Monday to inspect the remaining structure of the monastery and table a report maintaining the details of modalities such as how the structure would be preserved without disturbing its heritage status. The SP, East Burdwan has also been asked to deploy a picket on the site to ensure that the structure is not destroyed.

Narahari Dev, a Vaishnav saint, had come to Burdwan in the early part of the 18th century from Khara region of Punjab. He pursued the Nimbarka branch – one of the four major Vaishnav philosophical schools. According to the West Bengal Heritage Commission his disciple Dayaram Goswami accumulated much wealth and constructed a temple of Gopal Jiu. The residence of the Mahanta, the abbot of the monastery in European style, was called Mahanta Sthal.

About seven months ago, a trust that governs the property, had engaged contractors to demolish the heritage structure on the plea that it had become dilapidated and difficult to maintain.
