The state government has set up camps to resolve the grievances of local residences at Sandeshkali, which was organised today with the help of revenue and land revenue officers to investigate allegations related to land and settlements.
The state government has already taken steps against Trinamul leader Sheikh Shahjahan’s followers including Uttam Sardar and Shiba Prasad Hazra alias Shibu over allegations of land grabbing and other irregularities in two blocks of North 24-Parganas. Government officials and employees are visiting people’s homes in Sandeshkhali-1 and Sandeshkhali-2 blocks to investigate allegations related to land and settlements. Since Saturday, there has been no disturbance in those localities.
The camps put up hoarding with chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s picture reading, “Solving advanced problems through public participation.” People were seen coming to these camps by crossing three rivers in Sandeshkhali.
The villagers have accused leaders Sheikh Shahjahan, Uttam Sardar, and Shibaprasad Hazra of land grabbing and not providing pattas (land deeds). All these allegations are being investigated in the camp. Recently, the state irrigation minister Partha Bhowmick visited Sandeshkhali regarding the allegations raised by the villagers. He stated: “There are allegations of embezzlement. The lease money has not been paid. The allegations have arisen because the money has not been paid. The responsibility of paying that money will be taken by Trinamul Congress.”
On Sunday, state ministers Partha Bhowmick, Sujit Bose, and Bratya Basu also visited Sandeshkhali. Meanwhile, Shiba Prasad Hazra, who was arrested yesterday was produced Basirhat court on Sunday and sent to police custody for 8 days. Police have added charges of gang rape and attempt to murder against him and former Trinamul leader Uttam Sardar. Additionally, a murder case has been registered under the relevant section.
