Nineteen days after an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team was assaulted by a mob, ED investigators again conducted a raids at the residence of absconding TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan at Sandeshkhali in North 24-Parganas district this morning in connection with its probe into the alleged multi-crore ration distribution scam, an officer said.
A notice has been served to Shahjahan’s house by the ED. Shahjahan has been instructed to appear within the next five days. Since 5 January, there has been no trace of Shahjahan. The ED suspects that he may have fled to Bangladesh. Accompanied by over 120 personnel of the central armed police force, the ED officers broke open the collapsible gate of the residence of Shahjahan in the Sandeshkhali area in the presence of local police and two locals as witnesses, the officer said.
After entering the house, the ED officers locked the gates from inside and started searches. After breaking the home’s two locks and entering, they searched through Shahjahan’s wardrobe, trunk, and even flipped the bed. They ascend to the roof of Shahjahan’s house and even inspect the water tank. They meticulously examined everything, noticing a laptop.
On 5 January, a team of ED officers were assaulted by a mob when they tried to enter the residence of the TMC leader. Three officers were injured in the attack. The district police and Sheikh’s family members had lodged a complaint against the ED officers. Shahjahan, however, is absconding.
